 The Cost of Being Transgender

Trans* related medical expenses are still very much considered "cosmetic" and "elective". Many of these costs are out of pocket expenses as a lot of insurance companies have yet to include transgender medical expenses in their coverage and plans. According to a recent HRC study, costs can be reflected as:

  • Hormone therapy per year - $1,500
  • Male chest reconstruction - $9,000
  • Female breast augmentation - $10,000
  • Gender reassignment surgery - $30,000

These costs can be a heavy financial burden for anyone, however the trans* community is especially impacted by low wages, poverty and unemployment. With daily applications for assistance TUFF would love to help as many individuals as possible. You can help! Donate today.
